False Heart Rate Data From Apple Watch

I noticed something very weird with my Apple Watch. I stopped wearing it for 2 weeks and during this time I allowed the battery on the Apple Watch's battery to drain. After the 2 week period I charged my Apple Watch up again and noticed in the Health App on my iPhone, that the Apple Watch had started sending fictitious heart rate data for the 2 week period of time my Apple Watch was off.

I then noticed after a couple days that when I wasn't wearing my Apple Watch at night it still continued to send fictitious heart rate data.

The only way I could fix this was restore the Watch from the most recent backup.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the 42mm sport model if curious.

Thank you

Hi,

I haven't personally experienced this with my watch (38mm sport, WatchOS 2.2).

I may however be able to provide a little insight into the issue:

Apple watch knows when it is connected to it's charger and will not trigger the sensor even if prompted, it seems most likely to me that a third party app is writing to your heart rate data in health.

To check, go to Health > Sources and listed under 'Apps' there should appear a list of apps authorised to interact with and write data.

You may want to verify that these apps aren't writing the data.

All the best and by all means keep me updated! 🙂

Hi there,

Sorry for the slightly late reply.

At this point, I don't feel that there is much I can assist you with from the software side, unless it is some form of bug or weird feature present to all apple watches which seems unlikely.

I therefore reccomend gaining help of apple support as this could potentially be a hardware issue.

You can find apple support here:

All the best and let me know if this is resolved, apple has always been completely competent in resolving my own issues so I am sure they will be able to do the same for you. 🙂
