Q: Recently purchased movie on iTunes will not sync to Apple TV (1st gen)

I recently purchased a movie on iTunes and it will not synch to my Apple TV (1st Gen). I have reset the system several times and done all the updates. The movie plays fine on my iPad and iMac just not my Apple TV.

Apple TV, OS 3.0.2

About renting movies from the iTunes Store - Apple Support

From that support article - I suspect that is what is the cause of the issue

    Watch rented movies

Watch movies on the following devices:

    • A Mac or PC.
    • An iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (with iOS 3.1.3 or later).
    • An iPod classic or iPod nano (3rd, 4th, or 5th generation).
    • A TV through Apple TV.

If you rented the movie on your computer, but want to watch it on an iOS device, connect the devices and sync using USB. When you move a rented movie from your computer, it will disappear from your computer’s iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as often as you want, but you can only have it on one device at a time.

If you rented the movie on your iOS device or Apple TV, you can’t move it to any other device.

the old alu first generation appletv only does hd in terms of 720p and at 24fps if one attempt to purchase hd material in 1080p and or 30fps it will likely not work on the old appletv, for 1080p the same would go for second generation appletv I would say
