Are you referring to SMS texts (green bubbles) or iMessage (blue bubbles) or both?
Try a forced restart after shutting down all open apps using the app switcher - invoked by quick double press of the home button and swiping up on each app till it flies off the screen
Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons down together till you see logo - then release and allow normal boot up
Re pairing the iDevice may help

May 3, 2016 11:04 AM in response to valthegreatby ChitlinsCC,I fear then that you may have an inferior replacement part - Apple will detect that f you take it to them and refuse service.
The part may not be at fault, no way of telling for sure without a much more detailed description of your issue.
