APPLE ID LOCKED FOR SECURITY REASONS *FORGOT VERIFICATION INFO*

Me and my friend traded phones and I was trying to factory reset it but I didn't know the apple password. I couldn't ask him because he was in student detention and he hadn't set up my phone yet so I typed random passwords trying to guess it not knowing that it would lock the account. After school he told me the password but either one of us could log in because it needed him to answer his security stuff like his birthday or verify by email but he forgot his stuff. I looked on the apple site and it said you could try again in 24 hrs. I'm just wondering will it still be unlocked and we can try again?
