iCloud Drive: Are files still on my mac after moving them?

I'm a bit low on space on my macbook air so I decided to utilise my iCloud drive space.

It has spent hours uploading all my files etc but my free storage space doesn't seem to have decreased even after deleting the files from their original location on the mac.

Are the files (or a copy of) still stored on my mac despite having been uploaded to iCloud drive?

Thanks!

MacBook Air

Yes, iCloud is a syncing system, not an external storage system. If you delete them from the device/Computer they will be deleted from iCloud. For the computer, go to Photos/Preferences/iCloud. That will reduce the space required by about 90% when fully effective.
