Is there a way to get my iphone for to quit looking to activate?

I have an old iphone 4 that I use as my ipod so I don't drain my iphone 6 battery. Even tho it is not connected to a network, it continues to look for one. I understand why but is there a way to turn this off and just let it think it is an ipod?
