restoring iTunes from backup disc

I'm moving my music from old computer to new and according to the instructions the iTues will recognize the backup and ask if you want to restore - well it doesn't happen.
Is there a way I can restore from the iTunes software?
I'm looking through all the menus and there is no option to restore.

I went to iTunes HELP and found the follow: Let us know if none of these options are working for you. Good Luck!

Moving your iTunes library to another computer
If you get a new computer, Setup Assistant helps you transfer files from another computer. If you don't transfer files during setup, you can transfer your iTunes library by connecting computers, or by using a portable hard drive or iPod.

For more information, open Mac Help (in the Finder, choose Help > Mac Help) and search for "transferring files between computers." Also click the links below to see articles on the Apple Service & Support website.

When you sell or give away a computer, don't forget to deauthorize it.

Thanks for you answer - however - we are using iTunes on windows XP computer. when I looked in Help the options were to either use iPod or use back up feature and write it to the CD's. We created 12 or so CD using back up option. Help file said that when you insert CD iTunes will see that it's a backup and asked if we want to restore - well that's where the problem is - iTues just list all the songs from the CD but doesn't give us an option to restore. I've looked under all the tabs ie File etc and there is nothing implying Restore. There is an Import option but all is looking for is a text file of Playlist.
I also tried just to copy couple of Data files from My Music folder and folders which contain actual songs to no avail.

Yes, I am having the same problem. My computer crashed, and I lost about half of my iTunes library. I had backed up my most of my library on a DVD. I put the DVD in the drive, and the songs come up in iTunes, but iTunes does not prompt me to restore. When I go under Edit>Back Up Disc, there is no Restore button to click. There are no checkmarks beside the songs, so I can't import them like a cd either. I've emailed Apple three times and haven't received help that works yet. Anybody have any ideas how to get the songs from the DVD back to the iTunes library?

Hi. I had exactly the same problem, backed up library from old itunes then updated to newer version and also updated ipod software when prompted. For whatever reason on ipod update it corrupted so had to restore to original settings and use backup DVD to restore library. As previous people have said it didn't auto-run nor could I find a restore option.

So. All I did was click on the backup DVD in the source list, click on the first song, shift/cursor key down and gradually move over groups of songs direct to ipod. I tried to move all (700) but the delay was so big that I thought my PC had crashed. Try groups of 50-80 songs and you should be ok. Haven't tried playback from ipod yet but hopefully ok.

Hope that helps.
