Q: Unable to sync iMessage with Contacts

I cannot sync contacts (aside from several random Facebook contacts) to my iMessage on a MacBook Pro. I have attempted disconnecting and reconnecting the Apple ID login to iMessage and the contacts will not sync. Logging out and back into iCloud has not worked either. How do I fix this?

Also, when I first bought this Mac I was able to send messages to any non-Apple phone and now I can not. Is this now disallowed?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), iOS 9.3.1

    Hi,

The Contacts app should be syncing with the Contacts App on other devices.

That can be set in either System Preferences > iCloud and the Contacts option or Internet Accounts > the Service of your choice  and the Contacts option.

The results of which ones are active can be seen in Contacts > Preferences > Accounts.

Only one should be active and it should be the same as the iPhone.

You will notice that in System Preferences > iCloud there is nothing about Messages, FaceTime, iTunes, The App Store, Game Center and several other places you can use an Apple ID.

Turning it ON and Of so to speak does nothing for iMessages.

    If...

The Mac and iPhone are syncing Contacts then the visible Name remains the same.

The iPhone is using the same Apple ID the the iMessages should sync

The Text Forwarding (SMS) is set on the iPhone the Mac should be listed and that should work.

If SMS Forwarding is not working you may need to reset this.

Check first though that the iPhone is joining your Wifi network so it is on the same LAN as the Mac.
