Q: Primary Email Address Problem

Hi Gals & Guys,

I have a slight problem, well a major problem. I have been using my satellite (tv providers) email address for those who might not have the same in their country as I am assuming you good people are from all over the world its basically cable. This tv provider is huge in the uk. Not only do they do television but they also do Internet access and also home telephone services which we chose to opt out on a month later when a huge bill came through and we only use it for calls my cell/mobile provider would cost more to call. After receiving the first bill we opted out but kept the tv and internet.

I know you think you don't need the above info but looking back at these discussion boards I have noticed people asking for more answers so hopefully there is no need for that if I have given enough detail.

SInce we had these services just like any other company offering them we got a email address. I have contained to use that email address since we signed up. This is going back years & years like I said when the first iPhone came out then the App Store got introduced.

A good 18 months ago we changed internet providers - our area finally got superfast fibre broadband downloading music from iTunes in about 30s flat if less. Films around 5 mins. I would never look back.

I asked the provider since I had changed my internet to another provider since at the time good ole Richard Branson was the only one doing these high speeds for a premium price but not in all areas until an provider came out of the woodworks which offered it at a reduced price and it soon was in my area.

I immediatly got on the phone with my old broadband provider and asked them if this was the end of my email address. They assured me that as long as I kept their television services that I would be safe.

Heres where my trouble starts.

I was in bed ill. I woke up. Like most people when ill in bed I decided to check my emails. I do have a few email addresses. Work, Spam - those type of companies who send about 5 mails a day but your interested in their products. Emails who have the added security like texts to your phone.

Yes I am very much a Virgo who likes things just right. Everything needs to be organised.... If only I thought of that when choosing my PRIMARY email address for my multiple iOS devices. Which there is 6 in total in the house inc my daughters new iPod touch and the one out beforehand and her iPad mini. She can't bear to get rid of her out of date iPod touch and constantly plays with my iPad pro. Which we make a mother & daughter  tradition of watching the new Apple events on the Apple TV. My husband can't seen to relate to the insides of a new phone or iPad. I myself change phones each time they come out but tend to not buy the new iPads exuding the masterpiece iPad pro. I was using the iPad 2 for many years, mostly for reading. When I heard of the watch and the new Apple TV I had to have. They are the way forward of technology. so I payed a small fortune much to my husbands horror. :-)

    Hi Gals & Guys,

I know you think you don't probably as much info but looking back at these discussion boards I have noticed people asking for more questions so hopefully there is no need for that if I have given enough detail and you kind people can help me.

After all I am deeply upset as not only I will be affected but my 9 year old daughter who is the genious techy for her age and she's been recognised because of this and her school even knows of her potential and worships Apple. So much so she would spend hours in the store and really wants to take the kids courses of coding and even the other classes Apple has to offer. She is on my family icloud to. Very much hard to buy for Xmas Instead asks for apple Gear be it cases to cables. The kid is obsessed and goes as far to having wars with her father about android which he initiates. Steve jobs is a God for her and will buy magazines intended for Apple techies. I guess thats my fault for letting her play kids apps as a toddler, she then threw away her toys and to get peace I bought her, her first iPod touch

I have a slight problem, well a major problem. I have been using my satellite (tv providers) email address they also do broadband and home telephone as a reduced rate if you have all three. At the time after researching this bundle was the cheapest option.

SInce we had these services just like any other company offering them we got a email address. I have continued to use that email address when we signed up. This is going back years & years like I said when the first iPhone came out then the App Store got introduced.

Previosly to that whilst in the times when Bebo was the main social media of the time which well predated the iPhone my msn email got hacked. After contacting them they told me there was nothing to be done.

    NOW TO THE REAL PROBLEM

Looking back I should have signed up to a different secure email. I later got a email from my television provider that Yahoo was indeed now the main source of the email. I could log in via yahoo as well as my tv providere address.

Even though I had a very strong password that I changed every few months containing symbols as well as letters and numbers it seems that Yahoo is not at all safe and they got hacked as I found out due to a search when my iPhone was asking me to put in my password. I later went on my tv providers email and my password was invalid. So then I tried yahoo the same there. I then managed to change my password by an alternative email. That seemed to do the trick....

Until my partner got a strange email telling him he could make thousands online. Since it was my email he opened it up. It did not contain malious content but he went to reply to me asking "What are you sending me" and seen that the reply address was completely different.

Hearing this I then wrote down a password that even I would not remember. I did not store this on my phone. I never told anyone and I put it in my safe should I need it since it was a home email and not needed at work and did not put any notes beside it.

Since the space of 4 months I have had to change it twice. WHY CAN THESE HACKERS GET INTO IT.

Before these events Aug 2015 I got a email from Apple telling me my icloud had been used from a device that was not recognised and to ignore if it was not me. That day I was ill in bed at 9.04 and my partner was at work which does not allow you to access such things on a computer.  If needed access I would just access it through the main iCloud address which I have used twice. Even my iCloud email has not been given out. I hardly use it. ALTHOUGH I may change that since my old email address is a liability.

I took immediate steps concerning my Apple ID. I changed my security questions and password. Applied a 2 step verification. Changed my phone number since these people could possibly find a way to get my number. I made it so my PIN number is sent via my new number or the devices that I am using.

THIS WORKED A TREAT - I am extremely lucky they never blocked my access to my Apple ID after researching that they could do this.

I am now very vigilant at changing my password. I went as far as contacting the apple team about my ID. They told me I had done the right thing and could see I changed passwords reg. This was a short while before I started to have email problems at least 3 weeks before.

    WHAT CAN I DO

As I explained above my tv provider changed their email accounts with yahoo but to still be able to sign in via the address through my tv provider and my ex broadband supplier. It's not safe. This time the password has changed again. However I stupidly changed the security question and could not change it. It seems I'm locked out unless I phone a number. This won't be hard to do since I am with their services.

I think they may ask me to change my email address but I still have contacts on there and so forth. So they might keep the account open just for that reason.

THE FIRST IPHONE WAS OUT IN 2007

Can you imagine losing all your data that you've spent thousands on since then all being wiped as I'm guessing I would need to set up a new ID to a secure email address like iPhone security that has a 2 step verification just like Google has to much of my relief.

Would my daughter lose all her stuff to? She does not download everything I do. Would it still show on the cloud if I made myself a new ID and put it in Family? Would I then be able to delete my original account and continue under my new name?

I know some very very long time ago before Apple had iPhones and such the like that my friend got her music back but it was a one off thing. This is going back some time ago. Only she was extremely over the moon as they don't ever do this but she was a avid music collector and was crying. I no longer see her to ask and can't even know which friend it was. It was well before iCloud though. They said they would never do it again.

Surely there must be a way round this. Like all the transactions I have bought through my card number and even kept the receipts of all the iPhone's I bought etc and be able to put my new ID through family in icloud. Surely other people's emails have been hacked. I have yet to find a impolite apple employee. Even the Support community here is really nice. No matter the question.

I am extremely sorry for the long post. I thought if I elaborated a little bit more to show all I have done. Maybe someone can help me in my perdicument.

    Thank You

    Sam

In less than 5 sentences, can you explain what the problem is that you're trying to solve? What are you trying to do? What happens when you try?

Example: "My Apple ID was compromised and now I have no access to my account". Or, "I tried to change my Apple ID to a new email address but it still wants my old password"
