Wifi won't log on automatically and preferred networks is empty

Hi there, I've recently purchased a new MacBook Pro13inch, running El Capitan 10.11.4. I'm having trouble with the wifi, every time I power-up/wake up the mac I have to manually select the wifi network (it does remember the password), There is nothing listed in the preferred networks box so I've tried adding my network manually but as soon as I apply it the box is empty again, I connect to the wifi via a Time Capsule 1TB at home and also different networks when I'm away, I'm also having trouble backing up via wifi and Time Machine but I think the 2 problems might be linked, My previous MacBook worked perfect with it, I've checked all of the settings side by side and I can't see a difference. Any help would be fantastic as I'm a bit lost with it. Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services ▹ Open

from the contextual menu.* A folder named "SystemConfiguration" should open. Move the contents of that folder to the Trash, except the file with this name:

com.apple.Boot.plist

Leave that file where it is.

You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and test.

If there's no change, restore each of the items you deleted from a backup, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place.

If the problem is resolved, you may need to recreate some of your settings in the Network and Energy Saver preference panes.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go ▹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.

Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

ls -@BOaen /L*/P*/Sy* | pbcopy

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.

Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.

The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.

The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.
