There are several ways to load songs on a shuffle.  How you load additional songs depends on which method you are using.  Can you describe how you loaded the first set of songs?  OR select the shuffle in iTunes.  To do this, click its device button on horizontal bar that goes across the iTunes window.  See below for screenshot of my iTunes window (upper left corner), showing an iPod's device button circled in red.

Click that device button to show the shuffle's settings screen in iTunes window.  On that Summary settings screen, find the checkbox for Manually manage music.  Is it currently checked or not checked?

It is unchecked, on the ipod does it have to be switched on when connected to the usb port and if so which one as it has a three way switch.

It does not matter if the shuffle's power switch is in the OFF position or one of the ON positions.  However, to be consistent while trouble-shooting, put it in the OFF position (because the OFF position "resets" the shuffle).

If Manually manage music is not checked, you are using automatic syncing.  You somehow used automatic syncing to load that first album ("CD") to the shuffle.  But depending no how you did this specifically, it may not automatically load the second album.

Since you are new to the shuffle, you may want to use the Manually manage music setting instead of automatic syncing.  If you want to try it that way, checkmark Manually manage music and click Apply.  Songs already on the shuffle should remain on the shuffle.  Here's how to add additional songs manually.

Show your music library in the iTunes window (click the Music button at left end of horizontal bar).  Near middle of horizontal bar, click Playlists.  A sidebar appears along left side, with your shuffle listed under devices.  In the main part of the iTunes window, you can control the view used to show your music library, using the control at the right end of horizontal bar.  I normally like using the Songs view, but if you want to load a complete album on the shuffle, you can use the Albums view.  Drag the album you want to add to the shuffle and drop it on the shuffle in the sidebar.  Alternately, instead of dragging/dropping, you can right-click the album and Add to Playlist -> [name of shuffle].

NOTE:  To add songs (not complete albums), use the Songs view.  Find the song you want on the iPod and drag/drop it on the iPod in the sidebar.  You can select multiple songs at the same time, and drag/drop the selection.  The right-click and Add to Playlist method works too.  If you want to add something else, like an audiobook, show your audiobooks library (instead of music library) and do the same thing.

When using Manually manage music, the iPod's light blinks continuously when connected to iTunes.  Blinking light means Do not disconnect - Eject iPod before disconnecting.  On the iPod's settings screen in iTunes, the Eject button is next to the iPod's name.  It looks like a triangle with a line below it.  Click that button to eject iPod.  The iPod's light become solid (not blinking).  Solid light means OK to disconnect.  And its color (when not blinking) indicates battery status; solid green means it's fully charged.

There is another technique called Autofill.  For using my shuffle with my iTunes library, I find that Autofill is the most convenient way to use a shuffle.  You can post back for more info.

Also, if you DO want to use automatic syncing instead if the manual method, I can describe how to set that up.

I have two Karl Jenkins  albums on my itunes, the first is complete and this is on my shuffle and the second just a few songs. You say 'to add songs use the songs view'. If i clik on Album both titles appear next to each other in separate boxes, if i clik on songs only the first appears as a list as separate tracks but the other disappears. Also there is no sidebar and one other thing if i clik on a track it starting playing on my pc but how do i stop it.

Even if the album is not the full album, you can still use the Albums view of your music library to load the "complete" album (whatever song you have from album) to your shuffle.  Drag the "box" (album artwork tile) for the album you want to your iPod in the sidebar, and drop it on the iPod to load the albums songs.  (See below for how to show the sidebar.)

Not sure what you are describing next, but when you click on one of the albums, it does expand to show the songs on that album.  And only the songs on that album are shown.  But that is not Songs view.  To show your music library in Songs view, click the control at the right end of horizontal bar and select Songs.  Here's a screenshot below (the left one) of the upper right corner of my iTunes window, with Songs view selected.  With Songs view, your entire music library is shown as a plain song list, with columns.

    Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 6.51.25 PM.pngScreen Shot 2016-05-06 at 12.40.55 PM.png

The second screenshot above (the right one) shows the upper middle portion of my iTunes window (with my music library in Songs view).  Click the Playlists button (highlighted in blue) on the horizontal bar, to show the sidebar along left side of iTunes window.  The sidebar shows your playlists, and when your shuffle is connected, it appears in the sidebar, under devices.

one other thing if i clik on a track it starting playing on my pc but how do i stop it.

A single-click just selects the track.  It does not start playing.  Double-clicking on a track starts playing it.  The playback controls are at the upper LEFT corner of iTunes window.

Manual loading is dragging items from the main part of the iTunes window (showing your library in the desired view), to the sidebar, and dropping them on the iPod.  OR, if you don't like dragging/dropping, right-click item and Add to Playlist -> [Name of iPod].  If you do it that way, you don't need to show the sidebar.  Using either method, you can select one item at a time or more than one item at the same time.

I seem to be getting there slowly as for me it is quite complicated! How can i delete songs that are on my shuffle, can i do that in the manual setting.

You mention Autofill, what is that?

Here's how to remove songs manually, when using Manually manage music.  Click the shuffle's device button in iTunes (shown in my first reply), to show the shuffle's settings screen in iTunes window.  Along the left side (in the sidebar), under On My Device, click Music.  To the right, the shuffle's song list is shown.  Select the song you want to remove and press Delete on keyboard.  You can do this with more than one song selected at the same time.

Autofill is a feature to load songs from your music library, or from a selected playlist, to automatically fill the shuffle with as many songs as possible.  As described above, under On My Device, click Music.  Below the shuffle's song list, the controls for Autofill are shown.  Next to the Autofill button, click Settings.  Checkmark the boxes for Replace items when autofilling and Choose items randomly, if they are not already, and click OK.  Over to the left, where it says Autofill from, you can choose your iTunes Music library (or a specific playlist).  When you click the Autofill button, iTunes selects a random selection of songs from your music library (or from a specific playlist) to load as many songs as possible on the shuffle.

NOTE:  If your iTunes Music library is currently smaller than your shuffle's storage capacity (or you select a playlist that is smaller), all songs are loaded (and the shuffle is not filled completely).

With my shuffle, I usually use Autofill to load a random selection of songs from my "favorite songs" playlist, which is much larger than the storage capacity of the shuffle.  I usually play my shuffle in shuffle mode.  By doing an Autofill when I connect my shuffle to charge, I get a new random selection.  Over time, it's like I am shuffling songs from that large playlist, even though I only have a small portion of it on my shuffle at any given time.

    ----------

The other way to load your shuffle is automatic syncing (which is different from Autofill).  After getting familiar with using the Manually manage music setting to add/remove songs manually, and use Autofill, please post back if you want more info about using the Sync Music setting for automatic syncingAutomatic syncing is more useful on iPods with larger storage capacity, but it can be used effectively on a shuffle.

If you are describing the control (near the upper-right corner) that changed your view of the selected library, that function is now in the sidebar (along left side of window).  If the sidebar is hidden, show it from the menu bar, View -> Show Sidebar.  After selecting your Music library, in the sidebar, under Library, select the view you want to use to show your library (such as Albums or Songs).  In current iTunes, the sidebar should remain visible (like in "old school" iTunes); you can make as narrow as possible.

NOTE:  To change the view for a selected playlist, after selecting the playlist, from the menu bar, View -> View As -> [select desired view].
