Looking to purchase an external storage device which has 3.0 USB. Is it compatible with my Macbok Pro SN: W89235Q3644. There is also a device that used 3.0/2.0 USB; would that work as well?

Yes. Since USB 3.0 is downward comparable with USB 2.0, it will work. Of course it will only operate at USB 2.0 speeds.

The expression USB 3.0/2.0 is simply a way to say that a device will work with either 3.0 or 2.0.
