Q: Force a password change upon login

Hello there!

I will admit that I am VERY green regarding managing a OSX server. I am looking for a way to set it up so that the first time a user logs into their new system, it forces them to change their password. This has been a headache for me and my colleagues. And assistance would be very much appreciated.

For an individual user you can CTRL click on their name in Users in Server.app and choose "Change Password" then enter something generic and tick "Require password change at next login"

Then will need to know the generic password though, so they can enter that and then get prompted to change it.

Alternatively you can do it globally.

Again in Users in the server.app select "Local Network Users" from the drop down

Then click on the gear wheel at the bottom and choose "Edit Password Policy"

Here you can set several password options, you will want to tick "Be reset on first user login"
