Target display between a late 2008 Macbook and a late 2013 iMac?

Is it possible to use the target display function between a late 2008 Macbook and a late 2013 iMac? Due to the Macbook only having a Mini Display port and the iMac a thunderbolt I am unsure. Anyone have an answer?

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)
