MacBook Air Slow...

Just a coulee of days ago, my 2014 MacBook Air started slowing down. Starting up is a couple seconds slower, but opening applications is now very slow. Safari has been having lost of trouble lately, and my computer has been getting about 10º to 15º hotter than usual. You guys have no idea how much I do to make my storage as free as possible and my Mac running speedy as usual. I guess maybe this started around the time I installed Google Photos Backup, but I haven't had it running since a coupe of days ago...it was uploading about 40,000 photos when I only have 4,500 photos, making my Mac run hot while running, and then telling me it could not upload the photos because I put my Mac to sleep. Still, it has not been running for a couple of days so I can not imagine that a Google product would have this issue, besides Chrome which make my computer run way hot. Any ideas?

120.10 GB (11.46 GB free) (Low!)

Try deleting some files/folders to make space. Omni DiskSweeper can show you the precise size and location of all your files. It will inventory your disk starting from the files that take up the most space. It can also give you a more accurate read of disk space than Finder or Storage Tab of About this Mac. If you want you can even delete files from OmniDisk Sweeper.

I already have Omni. It's my photos library that takes up 55GB, but it is fairly unclear to me what the rest is...looking in Omni, Disk Inventory X, and others, it seems like my three libraries have a lot a data in them, and although I used to dig deep into there I do kinda just want a quick fix. There is an iCloud backup folder or something like that which takes up about 10GB--is it safe to rid of that? Also, I thought that storage space did not matter with SSDs until you got below a couple of GB; it that untrue?

May 3, 2016 6:00 PM in response to HarrisonMG

The only thing I see that is out of the ordinary is space on your hard drive. Soundlower is crashing but I'd chalk that up to lack of space. Deleting the iCloud backup might work depending on how you use it. If you an iOS device, turn off iCloud Drive and my PhotoStream, but your Photos will not synch to your Mac.

Or, you might move your Photos Library to an external drive and test. Follow Terence Devlin's advice here...

How do I move my photos library to an external drive?
