upgrade 500 Gb HDD with ssd need for TRIM

Hi All,

I recently upgraded my 500 Gb HDD to a Samsung EVO 750 solid state drive with 256 Gb capacity.

The computer is a late 2009 iMac running El Capitan and has 12 Mg of RAM

Do I need to install TRIM with this upgrade?

I understand TRIM performs some file management and also defrags an SSD.

But perusal of Utube has a video of a "professional" saying don't need TRIM.

I am not an IT professional so I am somewhat confused about the need for TRIM

This has become the chicken vs the egg question of the 21st century. I use TRIM on my late 2009 iMac and my early 2009 Macbook. You can expect conflicting answers here too. With El Capitan Apple has allowed third party SSD's to use TRIM also.
