Q: auto download iTunes U

Hello, I am trying to have a full course available offline on my iPad air2... what does the auto-download toggle switch do? In my case, I activated this, but it does not download the materiel, instead, I am still showing the iCloud icon, and I would have to "tap" each an everyone of them to get the content offline.

Can anyone help me?
