I currently have a mid-2013 MacBook Air. Recently the exhaust fan started running at full speed (approx 6500 rpm), even though I have no programs running. I've checked Activity Monitor and confirmed that I don't have any programs on.
The laptop isn't heating up, and I've tried the SMC reset a few times. The exhaust fan is still running at full speed.
Any suggestions? Cheers!

Yup, the air vents are not covered.. I normally use the laptop on hard flat surfaces.. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of my usage of the laptop.
Run an Apple Hardware Test, it may offer a clue:

Note that an error free AHT is not conclusive.

I ran the Hardware Test and received the following message:
"There may be an issue with the System Management Controller (SMC). Reference Code: PFM006"
Is there any way to resolve this myself besides having to bring my laptop in to Apple for fixing?
Try a reinstall of the OSX. This is a guess on my part. If there is no change, then do make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. Note that the evaluation will be FREE.
