I am on my 3rd adapter in just over a year, they work for about 5-6 months and then one day I plug it in to watch a movie and I get a message this device may not work properly and that's it, no more signal no matter what I do. I have to go and buy a new.

This will not help with your issue but might explain why it is happening. Please note that the adapter only gets a 2.5 star rating overall and there are more 1 stars than any other category. The adapter does not seem that reliable as you have discovered. You could try leaving feedback here:
