Q: How to a make a particular email address the default for a contact.

I have a contact that has a “home” and a “work” email address, for some reason the default or the first address offered me in mail when I type the persons name is alway the “home” address, which I rarely want to send to, but need to have in my contacts. What I want to do is to set this particular “work” address as the default email address so that it is always offered above other email address for this particular contact.

Both address are in revived and sent mail folders but the “work” address has a far greater number.

Alphabetically the “work” address happens to be before the “home” address

So far I have tried…

  1. Moving the email addresses in Contacts so that the “work” on is above the “home” one.
  2. Renaming the “home” to “z” so alphabetically it should come after “work”
  3. Removing both email addresses from “Previous Recipients” in mail
  4. Made sure the “work” address is the default email address in the groups that it is in.
  5. If I delete the “home” address in Contacts the “work” address does come first!! (the home address is offered further down as “found in mail” )  But the moment I put the “home” address back in Contacts it jumps right to the top again!

This is driving me insane!!! I have sent numerous email to the wrong address because of this. No one has just one email these days, so that has to be an answer.

Can any word help?

    Hi Rysz,

Thank you of posting!  As you can see above I have tried that in No. 3 of the things i've tried.  :-(

I have noticed that in a different email account the address order works as i want jut not in my main account.  Odd!?  grateful for any other ideas I haven't tried though. :-)
