I have a 13" MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5. Today I turn on iTunes and it sounds like the speakers are blown, as well as the volume is increased significantly, as the sound has always been minimal on this machine. I tested Spotify and YouTube, and the sound is great on both of those, so it is only iTunes. What on earth happened??

I understand the sound quality is poor only when playing iTunes through your MacBook Pro speakers. If you have already quit iTunes and restarted your computer, and the issue persists, try these troubleshooting steps:

Wow. Did not think that was going to work, as the sound was completely fuzzy, like a blown speaker, but the equalizer had somehow been set on custom and every level was all the way up!! Sounds fine now. Thank you!!!

Since you mentioned your issue was only in the iTunes application, that is why I suggested looking at the settings within iTunes. I'm not sure why the equalizer settings changed, but am happy to hear your issue is resolved and you can now enjoy your iTunes music again.
