Q: changed my apple id now cannot logout of itunes on iphone

In error I deleted my apple ID. Reason is that I gave an old iphone (4) of mine away and I did not properly logout so some of my data was synchronising to the phone I gave away. In the end I just deleted the apple ID account. In hindsight I know I could have handled this better

Now my new iphones (6 & 5 used for two phone numbers) and my ipad were all linked to the same apple ID account. Of course I was unable to use the deleted apple ID but I tried and was unable to logout of itunes. Recreating the same apple ID account didn't help as the iphone did not allow me to use it. So I created a new apple ID and was able to logon to it with app store on my iphone but then when I tried to update any apps then itunes prompted me to login to my old apple ID! I recreated my old apple ID but App Store and itunes both still don't allow me to use it. icloud is also messed up for the same reason.

So I cant use the app store, cannot update apps, cannot use icloud on any of my devices - it's a big mess

Now what can I do to put it right?

Will a reset clear up the problem even though I don't want to do this on any of my devices? How do I first back up the data stored on the devices if I am forced to reset them? I cannot use icloud.

Thanks

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3

You can't delete an Apple ID. You can stop using it, and you can change the email address associated with the email which creates an updated Apple ID reflecting the new email address.

You should be able to sign out of the newly created Apple ID that yo don't want or need to use and then sign into the old ID in Settings>iTunes& App Store.

IF that doesn't work, explain I step by step detail exactly what you did to get into this predicament.

I can sign out of the temporary Apple ID and then sign into my recreated old ID (after unlocking the account and going through password reset on the phone) ok but when I go to update an app I get a prompt every time from iTunes to sign in (to the same Apple ID), it accepts the password and no error is shown. Then when either I press the update button alongside any app or press Update All the app update wheel spins a few times and then the update button comes back and the app is not updated.

One possible clue - when I sign on to manage my apple ID at apple.com I cannot see any devices so maybe my devices are no longer linked to my apple id or when I sign on at the App Store on my device it is not linking to my account.

I think when I had the original problem I deleted all my linked devices from my apple ID at apple.com or from icloud. It was a few months ago and I don't remember the exact steps I followed.

    Can you help?

Turns out that the events were a bit different than this, I renamed the account on the phone I gave away and didn't realise at the time that this affected my other devices. Now working with the person I gave the phone away to undo the changes. What confused me in the first place is that you sign in to the Apple ID with one email account and this can to point to another email account. Anyway I've got the clues I need to fix it.

    Thanks

I'm sorry, but I got hung up earlier and I just now read your last two responses. I'm glad to hear that you are able to sort it out now.
