How do I force a purchased tune to download to my iPhone from iTunes?

I've bought several HUNDRED tunes from iTunes over the last dozen years, this is the first time I've had this issue. I bought 3 Prince tunes from the iTunes store via my Mac and iTunes. Typically the new tunes will get over (iCloud) to my iPhone no problem. But for these 3 I was getting "not authroized" when trying to play them and after much fiddling, trying different things here, the tunes show up in my Music on the iPhone, but now get "This item cannot be played". I've turned iCloud off and on, tried syncing multiple times, but I can't find a way to force the tunes to load to my iPhone. If I can't get this to work, I want my $4.17 back that I've spent to get the 3 tunes.
