in network diagnostics it says server failed

based on that message, your Domain Name Server numbers may be set incorrectly.

These numbers are sites that hold the "phone books" that make your alphabetical addresses (like Apple.com) work correctly (by substituting the correct "phone number" 17.149.160.49).


Most users should be getting the correct numbers from their Router, which gets them from their ISP's upstream Router. If that is not working, you can use googleDNS numbers or OpenDNS numbers in the US, (but use caution with those if you are NOT in the US, as they may send you transatlantic just to look up a number.).
