Email reinstall

I had to do a wipeout and reinstall of my operating system and El Capitan was installed. I used the Airport back up to restore my hard drive. When I went to use email I figured out that I had to delete and reinstall my account. This worked and I started receiving my emails. Now I can't find the folders that I stored all of my old emails in. Any idea how I can recover those from my previous mailbox?
