multiple thunderbolt daisy chained devices exceed the 3 meter length limit (or is the 3 meter limit just between EACH device

I'm reading that there is a 3 meter limit on copper thunderbolt cables to maintain acceptable performance. Does that 3 meter limit include the total length of all daisy chained devices (connected with shorter cables) -OR- does the limit 3 meters apply to each device to device connection (daisy chained), yielding a combined workable length greater than 3 meters?

Thanks for your help

each station re-drives the signals, so it is 3 meters between stations, not total.
