Q: iCloud for Windows - "There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server."

Greetings All,

I am having a strange issue with iCloud for Windows and logging into one shared iCloud account (for calendar sharing only, to synchronise with Outlook). There are no issues downloading or installing the iCloud for Windows client, but upon login for the first time via the client, I receive the error: "There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server". This will occur no matter what is typed as the username or password, even if it is correct. This occurs with some Windows PCs, not all. I have managed to login with some PCs via the iCloud client without any issues.

I have done the follow to diagnose the issue on the troubled PCs:

- Reinstalled the iCloud client, restarting after uninstallation/reinstallation.

- Logging in via the iCloud.com and appleid.apple.com websites works without issue.

- No Antivirus or Internet security software has been installed, and if there was, it was disabled.

- Windows Firewall has been turned off.

Would you lovely folk have any suggestions?

Thanks,

David.

    Hello DavidNBMD,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are unable to log in to iCloud from your Windows machine. The following article provides the steps to take to resolve multiple issues with an iCloud account.

    Best regards.

Thank you jeffd55. In reply to you:

    - I have checked the System Status page, there was no outages at the time I was attempting to login.

    - I have verified that the iCloud client was the most up to date version.

    - I am certain that I am logging in with the correct iCloud account as I have tested it with icloud.com and appleid.apple.com.

The remainder troubleshooting steps do not apply to me in my case.

Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have tried everything I can think of and nothing has worked.

    Regards,

    David.

    Hi David,

At this point, having tried the steps in the referenced article, it appears time to use another of Apple's support options: Contact Apple Support

    Best regards.
