imac slow to start up

My iMac has recently been slow in starting up. I have a iMac 21.5 inch 2009 model with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I am running Yosemite operating system. Is it just the operating system that slow or could my machine be going on the fritz?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Please download and install EtreCheck from http://etrecheck.com/

Run it and post the report here.

If you don't want to post an EtreCheck report, since the Mac is slow to startup, remove all login items in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items then restart to test.

Do the same for /Library/StartupItems

Login items can often be the culprit when a Mac is slow to boot.

And since this is a 2009 iMac, it wouldn't hurt to check the startup disk.

Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities

Select the startup disk on the left then the left then select the First Aid tab then click: Verify Disk

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Test after each one. Back up all data before making any changes.

1. Set the default startup disk.

2. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up. If there's no change, reconnect them

3. Reset the System Management Controller.

4. Reset the PRAM. Afterwards you'll need to repeat Step 1.

5. Reset the printing system.
