Quick Time Player not working after El Capitan install

Now Quick Time Player isn't working properly. When I click to use it, the only thing it allows me to do is "click to drag", while recording a screen, the control buttons disappear and the only way I can stop recording is to go to the menu screen and quit the Quick Time Player. So annoying!

It also isn't allow me to edit. When I try to edit my videos and then save it, it says it can't save the file.

None of this makes any sense.

Hey macsrule2,
I understand that you are having issues with editing and creating screen recording with QuickTime. Let's go over some troubleshooting to get this sorted out.
The first thing I would start with is testing this out in a different user on your Mac. If you do not have another user on your Mac, you can create one within System Preferences. Take a look at the article for more details.

If it is reproducible there, then you will need to reinstall OS X as that is part of it and not a separate installer. Take a look at the article below for more details on reinstalling OS X.
