Sound from late 2013 27" iMac

My iMac started making a slight rattling noise, on and off. Pretty sure it's the hard drive. Other than being annoying, is this a sign of trouble ahead? Can I change the hard drive myself or do I have to bring this in, if the HDD needs to be changed?
