Basically my iPad has been taking forever to charge. For example, I will leave it on the charger for 4-5 hours and it will only be at 45%. I wanted to check if the battery is still good but don't know how.

Your best bet is to take it to an Apple Store for evaluation. Also try a different charger and cable as defective cables often cause this issue.
