Why does my Airplay mirroring disapear on Apple TV 4

I have an Apple TV 4th Gen and a 2015 MacBook Air. When I switch on to use Apple TV, the mirroring and or Airplay icon is either missing, Not available or just plain refuses to connect through either ITunes or Mac. The only way to re-establish this function is to pull the power on the Apple TV box .....!

This is really doing my head in... can anybody help?

Apple TV, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Have you updated tvOS to the latest version, 9.2?

Please review the notes in Use AirPlay to display video from your Mac on an HDTV - Apple Support

Make sure your ATV AirPlay settings do not require any security checks.

You mention iTunes, so are you having trouble with Home Sharing as well? You might look at Get help with Home Sharing - Apple Support

As these docs mention, you may be having a network problem. When this happens, can ATV still reach the internet?

Meanwhile, you can probably use the System->Restart as an alternative to pulling the plug.
