I want to preview a selection of music to determine if I want to purchase it I get the message "Ready When You Are" and then a prompt to join Apple Music with a free trial. I don't want to sign up for this but I like purchasing music on a song by song basis. How can I continue to preview the music first without the subscription?

As shown above on iTunes on a Mac or PC, you can click once on the circular play button for a preview.
Make sure you are in the iTunes Store Tab, and not in "For You", "New" or "Radio" tabs there. hose 3 are for Apple Music.
Nope. When you hover over the track and get the "play" icon and click it you get the "Ready When You Are to Subscribe button".
This is on my Mac - not my phone.
Major pain.
If you hover over the song track number you want to preview, a play button should appear, click it to get a short preview of the song.
