Safari problem: New tab (slow), search (slow)

(I know there is discussions on the topic "slow Safari", but it dont seem to mention the exact problem I experience. Please inform me if I should delete this discussion for that reason)

Hi. I have been dealing with this problems for the last month. Here is my problem and what I did:

When I hit "New Tab" in Safari, it takes forever (5-10 seconds) before the tab shows up.

When I click in the address-bar (were I search in Google and put in the website I want to go to) i takes forever (5-10 seconds) before I can write something.

So, what does a person with some computer experience do (I have much experience from Windows. "New" to OS X)? Uninstall the program (Safari) and re-install. But that doesn't work in OS X. So i re-installed OS X El Capitan. The problem was fixed, Safari was fast again. But, the next day, same problem. First I thought it was One Drive (because it was the ONLY program I had installed other than the pre-installed apps). But it wasn't One Drive. Then I though it was my Bootcamp installation (had no idea why, but why not try and remove it), so I formatted the whole drive and re-installed OS X El Capitan again. Safari worked perfectly, I could install One Drive, still worked perfectly.

THEN: When I got to my work, and installed the printer I use, Safari was slow again (as described above). It doesn't make sense, but after I installed that printer, Safari was slow and laggy again. Go figure!

And YES: I have tried all the, delete this and delete that (cache, history, cookies, turned off iCloud for Safari, turned off settings in "search", deleted several files in library and system as suggested no several sites) . Doesn't do it for me...

I don't want to switch browser, because I really love Safari and how it connects to my iPhone and iPad. Can anyone help?

NB: I had a discussion on this, but it was "solved" without being solved. Linc Davis was a great help. But I am afraid the former discussion is not active, so no notification will "pop-up". So therefore I have made a new one.

Try quitting all Adobe applications. Creative Cloud and Lightroom are crashing.

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Thank you for your reply. If the problem continues, I'll try. Currently the new update v. 10.11.5 of OS X seems to have fixed the problem. I will try your suggestions (even though I've tried them before, in the other post the same was suggested) if the problem persists.

Can I put the discussion "on hold" or something? What should I do next with this discussion?

May 19, 2016 2:40 PM in response to Eric Root

I have now tried what you've said.

Ive turned off all adobe application (so that NONE of them start up when I turn on my computer, not a single process starts up having something to do with adobe 🙂)

Ive tried in guest user; doesn't seem to be a problem. Safari runs smoothly as far as Ive tried.

Booted up in safe mode, and let it stay there for a while. Booted back, same problem.

I dont have any extensions installed, except latest version of flash player.

Keep in mind that this is a freshly installed OS X El Capitan. So there shouldn't be any faults...

May 20, 2016 6:47 AM in response to Kritun

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library./Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.
