how to place iTunes playlist on iPad

Recently updated iMac with april 20 2016 update. Imac came back on line with huge data loss.. now I'm just trying to get an iTunes playlist .. onto my iPad.. easy no? Lost all of notes, hundreds of hours of work,, all of iPhoto all of garage band files.. watch out for apple updates...
