Q: Safari 6.1.6 crashes at Google Maps

I'm guessing that the users posting this problem have their preferences set to allow Adobe to automatically update their Flash version on their machine; I do not. One of you states that the problem began on May 5; I'm guessing that's when the Flash update became available for auto-install. Yesterday, May 6, I manually updated my Flash version from Adobe's website, after receiving their notification of a newer version of Flash; this morning, May 7, Maps crashes. I too am on 10.7.5 and 6.1.6. The culprit would seem to be the Flash update, which I'm aware of installing and which the rest of you probably had installed behind the scenes. Hopefully, they'll find their bad line of code, despite "no longer supporting."

Flash auto-install also turned off here. I updated to the current version of Adobe Flash sometime in April, and Google Maps (which I use often) was working fine in Safari until the afternoon of May 5. I agree that it's probably not a Flash issue.

Thank god I found these posts. I thought I was the only one having this problem!.I'm also using OS 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1.6. Frankly speaking....there was nothing wrong with the usage of Googlemap until about May 4th or 5th onwards I think whereby Googlemap kept crashing. I also can't seem to login into Apple Support on my Imac. I'd type in my login id and password and hit enter..and then the page just kinda 'reloaded'. BUT..i'm not logged in!..I'm not sure if its my Imac problem or something cos now I'm typing from my Windows Acer laptop and I'm logged in using it and its fine from here. This seriously ***** big time. There was nothing wrong with my imac all these years at all!

Plus one (Mac OS X 10.7.5, Safari 6.1.6) , and rather disappointed for having problems related just to the commercial reasons pushing customers to update hardware and software already  perfectly fitting their needs.

I switched too to Firefox, but a further problem occurred: all the maps I had saved no longer appear on Google maps, when opened by such browser.

Any way to recover them as anybody knows?

Goodbye Safari and shame on Apple!!

I have been a loyal Mac enthusiast for 30 years, having began with a Mac Plus and many other models over the years as the Mac OS, hardware and 3rd-party peripherals and software evolved to meet the needs of the market. I have always tried to use native Apple software or Apple Partner Software whenever possible. In the beginning we all began with Netscape Navigator until 2003 or thereabouts with the release of Safari on the Panther OS. I have been surfing with Safari since then, only turning to 3rd-party browsers for specific websites non-friendly to Safari. More recently, given Apple's lack of interest in keeping Safari relevant for those of us quite happy with OS 10.7.5, I've been turning to Firefox for web tasks requiring a higher degree of security while using Safari for everyday browsing. That said, and for the first time since 2003, I've been left no other choice but to set Mozilla Firefox as my default browser. It runs flawlessly on all websites, offers excellent security, and is updated often to remain current, resilient, safe and secure -- even for OS 10.7.5 users! If Apple doesn't want to solve the problem, Mozilla Firefox will, and has! Problem solved!

Well I'm glad it's not just me. But this is on top of a week of serious issues (now resolved, I think) with my beloved Mac Pro. It's 10 years old, and so 10.7.5 is as current as it can get without buying a new system. Which means several of my applications I use daily can no longer be upgraded either. I use Google Maps constantly, so this is extremely frustrating and inconvenient for me. I would gladly upgrade my OS if I could. I resent being forced to buy new hardware!

Just being not alone helps, but doesn't solve.. I've been loosing quite a lot of time understanding and fixing problems that , besides maps, drive gave me with the finder closing and re-opening ceaselessly. 

The issue is I don't like el captain and, even if I could change OS and/or even laptop, I wouldn't , since I feel comfortable with my 2011 MacBook 17" and 10.7.5 that fully match my needs ( unlike,incidentally , a 15" screen).

Apple and Google pretend they work for customers' safety and convenience, but I guess they are mainly interested in making them spend their money.

I feel frustrated and all I can do is being sympathetic with others in my same situation.

I have this problem too.Started in early May 2106. Running Lion and cannot upgrade due to compatibility with the hardware/software i run. It works fine on OPERA 35 though. Regarding Flash, just be careful as there is a fake Adobe installer doing the rounds. it is named as Flash-installer and not the correct Adobe Flash-installer. the ADOBE is missing in other words. Looks like i will have to drop using Safari and start using Opera full time. I don't like the workflow/navigation layout on Opera though.

I have the same problem, which started at the same time.  My 4 year old Mac, with 6.1.6 shuts down Safari as soon as I click on google maps.  Most annoying as I find google maps very useful.  I am not techy, but think I will have to try and put Firefox on my laptop now, if I understand all the other replies correctly.  Thank you for the original post and thanks to the other contributors.
