Upgrade old macbook pro to osx 10.7?

This is my current mac book:

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro6,1

Processor Name: Intel Core i7

Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB

L3 Cache: 4 MB

Memory: 8 GB

Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s

Boot ROM Version: MBP61.0057.B0C

Currently running OS X 10.6.8

I would like to run a program that requires an upgrade to osx 10.7. How do I upgrade the operating system on this machine to the required version.

Much thanks.

Open the Mac App Store and download El Capitan, or if desired, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.
