I am trying to upgrade an app but i can't because it was originally downloaded using an old id. I can't delete and reinstall as it has important data on it. Any ideas?

You will have to update using the old id.
Purchases will always be tied to the account from which they were purchased and will always need to be updated using that account.

Thank you. And I do remember my old id. It just doesn't recognise it for some reason...
Did you CHANGE your Apple ID following this procedure:

or simply create a new one?
The simplest option is to back up the data on the app, then delete the app.
Download the app again using your current Apple ID and then restore the data.
Keep in mind though that if you originally had to pay for the app you will have to purchase it again.

Or is ur Apple Id linked with another device?
If these steps deosnt work you should try to search for a account logged in with ur Apple ID.
