I just got one of the iMac G4. I want to be able to use Final Cut pro on it, for editing and stuff. It has 1 Ghz and like 256 MB of ram.....If I get a memory upgrade to 1 gb, would I be able to put Tiger OSX and run Final Cut Pro without any probelems, or would I need more than just more memory. Also, I want to be able to burn DVDs....does it have one on it, or will I have to buy an exernal DVD burner? (Im used to using a G5 at school, and I'd like to make it as close as possible) Thanks a lot, sorry if this isnt what these disscussions are for (my first post).

the requirements for fcp are--

Requirements
Macintosh computer with 867MHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, or Intel Core Duo processor; HD features require 1GHz or faster single or dual processors (authoring HD DVDs requires a PowerPC G5 or Intel Core Duo processor) 512MB of RAM; HD features require 1GB of RAM or more (2GB recommended) Display with 1024-by-768 or higher resolution AGP Quartz Extreme or PCI Express graphics card (not supported on systems using the Intel Extreme Graphics 950 GMA) Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, iMac G5, a 1.25 GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25 GHz or faster flat-panel iMac. your computer should be fine for burning dvds. to find out, simply go to the system profiler and look for "disc burning". it is there in tiger anyway, i'm not sure about jaguar. but the info should be somewhere in your system profiler.

For Running Final Cut Pro:

The minimum graphic card required in an iMac G4 is the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra.

Sorry,
your iMac (1GHz) has only the NVIDIA GeForce4 MX.

Personally, before reading these requirements Sherry copy-pasted from this page, I didn't think it was even possible at all to run FCP on an iMac G4 (1.25GHz).

I would go to one of these Final Cut forums and ask the specialists, about the best minimum requirement they usually advise.

thanks all....looks like Ill have some porblems with FCP, but I will check out the FCP forum ( I didn tknow there was one). But jus as far as OSX tiger goes, would I have any problems suporting the system?

No problem, your iMac supports Tiger,

- after you upgraded memory like you said,
and,
- if it doesn't read DVDs (only CDs), you'll have to purchase the CD version
(download "Tiger Media Exchange" here), as Tiger exists only on DVD.

Thanks a lot. I'm pretty sure it reads DVDs, and Im still trying to find out if I can burn. Thanks for your help
