Indoor walk/run - HR monitor not working?

So not sure if this is a bug or if the program was designed like this, but when I select either the indoor walk or run exercise, the watch does not monitor my heart rates (I tried it with both a chest strap (Polar) and optical sensor). How does it accurately calculate calories burned if it doesn't measure my HR? Just by distance and time? Especially for me who walks on maximum incline on treadmill.

I reset the watch and it's still the same. The HR monitor does not turn on at all (no green light). Actually if I select indoor walk/run, and scroll through the different measurements (distance, elapsed time, calories, etc) I don't even see the HR option. Whereas if I select either "Other" or Elliptical exercise, I see the HR option and it works fine. So I think it's just that the watch doesn't measure HR under indoor run/walk.
