Q: Fitness Workout app time does not match Activity app time.

I'm having problems with matching my workout time to the total time that is calculated in the Activity app.  For example, I'll do a 45 min Outdoor Walk but only get credit for 32 min in the fitness Tracker.   Is there any way to sync these so that the actual workout time is carried over to the Activity app?  I'm using both the Apple Workout app and Runkeeper app and have problems with both. I've carried my iphone with me on every occasion but the problem seems to be in the Activity app when it comes to calculating my total movement for the activity.

Apple Watch Model MJ3Y2LL/A

Version 2.1 (13S661)

I have not upgraded to watchOS 2.2

Thanks.

I have  seen several posts like this. Not sure why this happens. I walked 6.22 miles today according to the Activity app but it only registers 15 minutes out of 30 in 'exercise'

    Hi

To credit progress towards your daily Exercise goal, the Activity app aims to identify activity that equals or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk.

This applies both during general daily wear and when recording workouts via the Workout app. It is possible that not all of your workout met this requirement.

The definition of a brisk walk varies from person to person and depends upon your personal information. To check that your personal information is accurate - and to update it over time:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Health > Edit - tap and adjust items, then tap on Done.

During general daily wear and when your iPhone is not taken along on certain outdoor workouts, the Activity app relies on your arm motion (measured by the accelerometer) to track movement for the purpose of crediting progress towards the Exercise goal. For the best results, allow the arm on which you are wearing your watch to swing naturally as you move around and during workouts.

For outdoor walks, if you take your iPhone along (with Location Services enabled), the watch can also use GPS data from your iPhone when estimating pace and distance. (Exercise credit will still only be awarded for minutes when the brisk walk requirement is met or exceeded).

Calibrating your watch can improve the accuracy of various estimations (including Exercise credit) made by the Activity app and Workout app. More information and instructions for calibrating your watch are available via the link below.

If you would prefer to receive Exercise credit for the full duration of your workouts regardless of their intensity levels, track them via the Workout app using Other as the activity type.

This will credit one minute of Exercise for each full minute of the workout. Active calories will be estimated at a rate equivalent to a brisk walk or based on data recorded by the heart rate sensor, whichever is higher.

Good point.  I have used the Other selection for workouts that don't match any of the predetermined workouts and you're exactly right: the Other workout time is matched minute for minute in the Activity app.  This is why I'm not sure why any of the predetermined workouts don't work when it comes to minute for minute recording in the Activity app.

As I hoped to explain above, when recording workouts under any other activity type, you will only receive a minute of Exercise credit for each full minute during which your activity meets or exceeds the intensity of a brisk walk.

Got it. So if you see a guy walking down the street swinging his left arm like a windmill, you'll know it's me!

Thanks for all of your help and the links. They were great.
