Safari freezing and crashing

I have a first generation iPad mini; all iOS is up-to-date and all apps are updated. I've been having a lot of problems w/Safari for the last several weeks. While using Safari, it often freezes. Other times, the Safari page will go blank and I'll end up on my Home Screen. When I go back into Safari, it does not show whatever tab I was using when it froze or crashed.

I tried updating my iPad mini and still had the problem. So I wiped it clean and reinstalled everything, still have the same problem. Is anyone else having a problem w/Safari on an iPad mini? No problems w/my second generation (regular size) iPad nor my iPhone 6.

Any idea as to why this is happening or what I can try to fix this? Obviously it's very annoying and makes using the web useless on the iPad mini. Should I just accept that it bit the dust and it's time for a new one? I hope that's not the case but I'm at a loss as to what else to try.

Thank you!

Not sure what you did before but you could try resetting Safari. Close Safari completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Safari preview pane until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the Safari pane by scrawling to the left. Then go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

If that does not help, try turning off Safari Suggestions. Settings > Safari > Safari Suggestions to Off (not green).

Everytime this happens the first thing I do is to close Safari as you suggested; doesn't help. Done the forced restart, done a full update, and done a full restore.

I also already have the Safari Suggestions turned off. Personally, I find them annoying.

Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately, it's a been there, done that situation. 😟

Unfortunately, I did do a full restore. As the iPad mini is about 3 years old, my AppleCare is no longer in effect. So, my guess is that it's not worth trying to get it fixed. The cost difference of fixing it versus buying a new one is probably not substantial enough to warrant fixing. Would that be your take on this? I'm only asking an opinion, I understand you can't give a definitive answer.

Thanks.
