May 6, 2016 1:10 PM in response to bihotto115by DavidOpdyke,They would likely charge you for a Topcase, which can run several hundred dollars. You would be better off trying to return the one you bought, and ordering one with the Japanese keyboard.

May 7, 2016 3:25 PM in response to bihotto115by K Shaffer,There may be a silicone overlay that sits on top of the existing keys, to help use
a keyboard in another language; however that said, I'm uncertain where to go to
proceed in obtaining the product and don't know where to look...
That could be less costly than replacement of the top case or each key-face, if
possible, with another whole set in another language. A japanese source of
third party products maybe a place to search.
Good luck in any event!

May 8, 2016 6:32 AM in response to Tom Geweckeby bihotto115,Thanks for the replies all, appreciate it. I think I may go the route of placing stickers on all the keys, after weighing my options.
Tom, I did come across that site, but unless I'm crazy, I don't see an option for the 12" Macbook in Japanese...I did see that they make it for languages like Russian. I found a few other overlays but they look like cheap crap (it's tough to gauge how the overlays will work since I've had quite a few on a 13" rMBP, and some just slide right off, while others provide entirely too much cushion when typing). Another thing about the overlays I've found, is that most ship from China and would take over a month to arrive!

May 8, 2016 1:17 PM in response to bihotto115by K Shaffer,You could try & contact the company (KB) mentioned above, they are headquartered
in California; and see what they can do about 12-inch Retina MacBook 2015/2016.

Perhaps they can supply the item, or if they don't, may reveal a reputable source(?)
Another option is to use an external keyboard that has japanese characters installed.
• Use your Mac notebook computer in closed-display mode with an external display - Apple Support
In any event...
Good luck & happy computing!
