whenever i play videos from my macbook and connects with airplay, it lags. so bad!! doesn't sync well..so irritating. i thought airplay support to be good?
That will be dependent on your network. If you are mirroring that will be very intensive as it is pushing out your full display in realtime.
Make sure no other activity is occurring (other streaming, web browsing, network backups etc)
If on wifi try ethernet
Test on another network
MIne works perfectly.

What version Apple TV do you have? What software version?
Is the sync OK when you play videos like YouTube on ATV alone (no AirPlay)?
Are you using bluetooth speakers? That can add a delay to the sound.

Also, try switching the audio mode from surround to stereo.
i bought the latest model of apple tv. when i play you tube or movies review on apple tv alone, no problem perfect and clear. i use bluetooth sound bar but the sound doesn't delay, the video delay and the sound comes first.
Are you possibly hearing the sound directly from your computer? There will be a delay transmitting to ATV, so you should listen to the sound from ATV.

I understand that the video is lagging. If you see the video from ATV while hearing sound from the computer, the video will lag the sound due to the video transmission delay. Are you hearing the sound from the ATV or from the computer?
Is the video a file on your computer, or is it coming from the internet?
Is your computer OS up to date?
Are you using mirroring (ATV as added display) or simple AirPlay (entire stream transmitted to ATV)?
Turn off Your BlueTooth on both you apple tv, and your mac
airplay lagging!
