Q: Issue with Garageband and iRig Pro
Hello, I am running Garageband vers 2.1 on my iPad mini with IOS 9.3.1. I am attempting to use as a guitar input an iRig Pro that (as far as I can tell) is updated with its firmware. I am attempting to use the in-app Amp provided by GB. For the most part, I am able to connect the iRig via the lightning port, plug my guitar into the jack, and initially hear myself through the headphones...so far, so good.
The issue is that, without fail and for no apparent reason, the input gain in the app will suddenly jump to the "maximum", producing a horrible distorted tone and feedback. It happens regardless of whatever I set the Gain knob on the iRig itself, or whatever I set the gain, master, or output controls on the virtual amp. The only way to rectify is to pull the lightning cable and then reinsert, which of course makes it impossible to record any tracks.
My best guess is that the issue has to be some combination of Garageband (or the virtual amps) and the iPad mini. This is because I do not seem to have any issue using the inter app audio option to play through one of the free Amplitube amps, for example. I have also noticed that this doesn't seem to happen if I use the IOS GB app on my iPhone 5C, so I'm guessing there is nothing wrong with the iRig or the cable. Anybody else experience such an issue, or any idea on how to solve this major snafu? Thanks!
