Q: Problem re-partitioning Fusion Drive after removing Windows
Hello,
So last night I decided I wanted to do a clean install of El Capitan on my computer. I have two partitions, one of El Capitan and one Windows. Stupidly enough I did not read up on how to properly remove the Windows partition (using BootCamp assistant), instead I reformatted BOTH of the partitions from Disk Utility when doing the clean install of El Capitan thinking I could just re-partition with Disk Utility, which did not work.
I then opened up BootCamp assistant and tried to do it the correct way and got this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
Both partitions are now formatted as MacOS Journaled drives.
I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do, thank you for any solutions I hope you might have.

Hello nixxu123,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It looks like you're trying to reinstall Windows using Boot Camp Assistant when you receive the message "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition."
You can use the steps in the following Support article to remedy this situation: Boot Camp: Partition alert message when using Boot Camp Assistant.
If you still can't reformat the secondary ("BOOTCAMP") partition and install Windows, next start up in OS X Recovery and follow steps 1 through 6 mentioned in the Support article above to remove the "Mac OS Extended (journaled)" partitions. After removing both partitions, you'll have to reformat the startup disk and reinstall OS X El Capitan again. Once OS X reinstalls, you should be able to use Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows again.
For more help with OS X Recovery and repartitioning your startup disk, see OS X: About OS X Recovery and Disk Utility 12.x: Partition a disk.
All the best.
