I have an APPLE 5th Generation IPOD Classic. Apple has discontinued support. My IPOD is not recognized in ITUNES under the DEVICE icon. It is, however, recognized in my PC computer. Can I buy MP3 songs and put them on my IPOD?

Can I place songs that I purchase from either ITUNES or another provider, download the purchased songs onto my PC computer which runs Windows 10, and then upload them onto my IPOD? I would buy my songs in MP3 format. Will my 5th Generation IPOD Classic recognize the MP3 format? I have both 32gb and 80gb IPOD 5th Generation Classics.

Apple has discontinued support.

Apple has discontinued support for servicing your iPod (for repairs). It's ten years old. However, Apple has NOT discontinued support for old iPod with iTunes. Some of my iPods are older than your 5th gen iPod, and they still work fine with the latest version of iTunes.

Will my 5th Generation IPOD Classic recognize the MP3 format?

Of course... 🙂 All iPods play MP3, back to the very first model.

My IPOD is not recognized in ITUNES under the DEVICE icon.

Do you have the latest version of iTunes installed? If not, you can download it here

With the latest iTunes, when iPod is connected, does the iPod appear as a device button on the horizontal bar that goes across iTunes window? Here's a screenshot of my iTunes window (upper left corner), showing the device button for one of my iPods (circled in red).
