Q: Lost passwords Safari 9.1 on El Capitan install

I installed El Capitan 10.11.4. I lost all my passwords on Safari. The bookmarks are still there. I lost all my bookmarks on firefox when I updated firefox.

Now your website has a guide how to "write a good question". I don't need that. Here is one for Apple Support on how to write a good answer. If you have a solution, lets do it from the "Macintosh HD" ICON. No short cuts using tool bars or other apps. Straight English, no computer jargon so your solution can be comprehended. Sorry, but computer problem solvers do not articulate themselves very well.

Again, please type your solution starting from the Macintosh HD (icon). No short cuts. Okay ? Thank you.

    Greetings coachrkr,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

From your question, I understand that your passwords are no longer saved in Safari. If this is correct, I would first suggest making sure that Keychain is enabled in System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain.

Use these steps if you're using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later:

    1. Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
    2. Select Keychain. If you want to, you can set a passcode to unlock your screen after sleep or after the screen saver begins.
    3. Enter your Apple ID and password.
    4. Follow the onscreen instructions.
