Q: Notifications

HI, I just got my Apple Watch and it's updated. I am not getting Mail notifications. I can read them but there is no Alert. The Text alerts are felt and seen just not mail. I have tried Mirror my Phone and Custom. I have also unpaired and paired again. I have had a few successful alerts but it's very sporadic. Also I'm trying from my wife's phone beside me. Is this issue still around or should I try something new. Thank you, Peter

If you don't see notifications on your Apple Watch

When your Apple Watch locks or you turn on Do Not Disturb, your notifications go to your iPhone instead of your watch.

    • You’ll see Lock on your watch face when your Apple Watch locks. If your Apple Watch has a passcode, it locks automatically when you aren't wearing it, when it loses contact with your skin, or while it's charging.
    • If Do Not Disturb is on, you'll see Moon icon on your watch face. To turn this feature on or off, swipe up on the watch face, swipe left or right to the Settings glance, then tap Do not disturb button.

    Hi Peter

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices and on your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

    - If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.

    - If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.

    - If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.

Also check your settings for mail alerts:

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Mail:
      • Under Alerts, check that Show Alerts is enabled.
      • Tap on an email account (eg iCloud) > check that Show Alerts from iCloud (for example) is enabled > check that Sound and Haptic are both enabled.

Thank you both for replying. My watch isn't locked (no passcode) and the Do Not Disturb is not enabled. It has to be something else. I have it set to Inbox and Wrist Detection is enabled. I'll take it back to the Apple Store and see what they can do. Thanks again

Have you checked the settings in my second reply?

They relate to the Alerts section in My Watch > Mail (whereas your reply refers to the Mail Settings section).

You might also wish to configure your watch to use these settings:

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - turn this on.

    - On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Passcode > Turn Passcode on (choose either a Simple Passcode or a more complex one).

    - Also on the Passcode settings screen, enable Unlock with iPhone.

After putting it on your wrist, your watch will then unlock after whatever you do first: either unlocking your watch manually (by entering the passcode) or unlocking your iPhone.

It will then remain unlocked (including when the screen is asleep) until you remove it from your wrist. When you remove your watch, it will lock automatically.

Keep in mind that, when used in combination, Wrist Detection and Passcode help to protect your data. They are also both required in order to use Apple Pay on your watch.

HI Jonathan, I thought I would follow up with my results in attempting to get my Mail alerts on my watch. I went to the Apple Store and spent an hour with a technician. Basically he did everything you told me to try and also deleted and then added my email account. He sent me several emails but not one came in. He suggested I just let it go for a few days as it could be a gmail thing. I believed it to be an issue with my 6 Plus and Fetching mail. I got home and decided to solve the issue or return the watch. it is now working   I ended up using Gmail as my primary account and installed the Gmail App on my watch. All of a sudden it was almost instantaneously getting mail alerts. So that all probably sounds pretty obvious and a simple thing, it wasn't for me and I think the folks who set my watch may have suggested this.

Anyway thats done. Now the only little thing I can't change is have the option to Trash mail rather than Archive it on the watch. I've tried everything and yes my phone is set to Delete mail in the Advanced section of my Gmail account.

THanks for all your guidance and great link. Peter
