Q: need to update iPhoto / photo

hello.

my issue is pretty frustrating. i cannot update apps on a second hand imac i bought.
i have to do a photo / iPhoto app update to access all my thousands of family and business

photos and videos (since update to El capitan)  but, when i go to updates, and try install,

i get the box pop up to ask to login - thats normally fine on a lot of other updates,
i just enter my own apple ID -  the thing is with this much needed update,
it is asking for the original owners apple ID to install this.
i have not been apple to get onto the original owner.

is there another way?   must be a way to register my imac under my name?

thank you.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The apps have to be updated by the owner using their Apple ID - if you own thes apps on any Mac and they are in your purchases list you can delete the old app and instqally yur own copy then have no update issues

The original owner was not entitled to sell you the Mac with the apps installed. The license from the AppStore ties the applications to the AppleID of the person who buys them, but it is just a personal license to use them, but the ownership cannot be transferred.  There is no way to transfer the ownership to you.

The previous owner was supposed to erase all applications and to reinstall the original system - put it back to the out-of-thebox state.  And to give you the system install DVDs, if the Mac came originally with installation media.

Is your MacOS X version still Mac OS X (10.7.5) ? Then you can purchase an iLife '11 DVD from Amazon or eBay and install your own iPhoto version.

And then update from Apple's software Update Support page, not from the AppStore.
